THE FALSE TEACHINGS ON THE

SECOND COMING OF LORD JESUS CHRIST

For the last 2000 years the Church, as a bride, has been eagerly looking forward to the second coming of Lord Jesus Christ, the bridegroom. The earthly pain, sorrow, suffering, tears and all forms of sinfulness and evil can only be taken away by the second advent of Lord Jesus Christ. At His second coming, every eye shall see Him and every knee shall bow before Him, and even those Jews who refused to accept Him as Messiah will acknowledge Him so in fulfillment of the prophecy in Zech. 12:10. This is the plain and simple teaching of the Word of God. However, Jehovah’s Witnesses’ perverted doctrine goes as follows: “It is settled Scriptural truth, therefore, that human eyes will not see him at his second coming, neither will he come in a fleshy body” (The Truth Shall Make You Free, p.295).

From which Scriptural passage JWs have come to this erroneous conclusion is unclear. However, 1 John 3:2 destroys this false teaching of JWs as follows : “…when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

On the topic of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, JWs teach that He was put to death in the flesh and was resurrected as an invisible spirit creature! (Let God Be True p.138). This erroneous teaching and the rejection of Jesus Christ’s Deity is shattered by John’s Gospel Chapter 20 and verses 27 & 28, wherein we see that Jesus Christ personally appeared to Apostle Thomas after His resurrection, and on seeing the resurrected Lord, the Apostle had no other words to address Him than, “My Lord and my God”! (v. 28).

When the Scriptural truth reverberates the fact that Jesus Christ resurrected bodily and appeared to His disciples and others with His nailed pierced Body and that He shall come visibly, the statement “human eyes will not see him at his second coming neither will he come in a fleshly body or He resurrected as an invisible spirit creature” is a self-invented doctrine of the JWs and it is not at all a settled Scriptural truth as claimed by them.

In Chapter II we have discussed at length the false prophecies of JWs Amongst their innumerable failed prophecies, we shall pick one relevant to this Chapter - “….Christ Jesus came to the Kingdom in A.D. 1914, but unseen to men” (The Truth Shall Make You Free, p.300)

When the inquisitive disciples asked Lord Jesus Christ, “Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world” (Matt. 24:3), after giving various signs of His Coming, He replied that neither any man nor angels can predict the exact day and hour of His coming. (v.32).  If this is the reply of the Omniscient Lord, then we ask JWs on what basis or authority do they set the dates one after the other for the Lord’s return?

Repudiating the above claim of JWs that He returned invisibly in 1914, Jesus Christ very clearly said in Matt. 24:30 as follows: “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory”

In light of the above, we take the words of Lord Jesus Christ seriously and reject the false teachings of JWs to arrive at these conclusions - (a) no one can predict the exact date of His return, (b) His return will be seen by all and (c) He will return in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
