SISTERS' CORNER
TRAIN NOW!
Sis. Manju Jijo, Bahrain
The wisest man who ever lived on the face of the earth says to all parents, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
There is only one right way, which is God's way – the way of life. Since it is well understood that early training secures life long habits, as parents we must teach God's Word and constantly enforce it with loving discipline throughout a child's upbringing.
Obedience is the key to pleasing God. It is the parent's responsibility to teach their children to be obedient.
"Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul" says Solomon in Pro. 29:17. Parental discipline, including punishment, balanced with kindness and love is required in early childhood teaching and training. We can have hope that the use of the rod will produce Godly wishes and pay to the parents.
Parents do a great injustice to their children when they fail to discipline them. To love is to chasten, but "he that spares his rod hates his son" (Pro 13:24). How contrary to the popular way of thinking! Just imagine how deceptive is the philosophy of many parents who say they love their children too much to discipline them!
Disciplining should be firm, and manifesting the gracious love of Christ. Parents' failure to disciple their child shows a lack of concern for their ultimate destiny.
Let us, as parents imprint the verses of obedience Eph 6:1-3 to our children even when they are very young, so that the promise attached along with this command may be enjoyed by them. With the same love that our heavenly Father uses to discipline His children, let us discipline our children too.
The right use of the rod is necessary to be on the right road.
